My Medicare Local

Medicare Locals make it easier for patients to use and move through the primary health care system.

Nineteen Medicare Locals began operating around the country on 1 July 2011. They are making a real on-the-ground difference to the delivery of primary health care in their local regions. A further 18 Medicare Locals commenced establishment and operational activities from 1 January 2012 and the remaining commenced from 1 July 2012.

In total, there is a network of 61 Medicare Locals nationwide to ensure people receive locally responsive primary health care.

While your GP will remain the centre of primary health care and continue to work with individual patients, Medicare Locals are the “glue” that links all areas of the primary health care sector. They will identify local health needs and address gaps in local health services.

Local needs and local solutions.
